From her foster parents:
Mollie is an energetic, healthy, loving, inquisitive 13-month-old Golden Retriever with soulful eyes who is being rehomed due to health reasons with her surrendering owner. She is currently in a foster home around the Twin Cities in MN. At her vet appointment, she weighed 40 lbs, which the vet felt was a great weight for her.
Mollie is new to her foster home but has made an easy transition with a few exceptions of skittishness around a few things, which she may not have had exposure to before. She loves Nylabones, mealtimes, lots of outside time to burn off her energy, and retrieving her giant tennis balls. She’s never had an accident in our home, doing all her business outside. Mollie comes readily when called by name and knows the sit command, although it takes a bit of coaxing sometimes.
She loves and respects all our senior resident Goldens, her people, and does very well playing gently with two young children ages 5 & 8 who visit our home. However, any adoptive family with young children should be aware and understand that due to her puppy exuberance, a little one may be inadvertently knocked over.
If Mollie is the only dog in the home, she will need lots of opportunities for doggie playdates, or if there is a resident dog, they must be of equal energy. A very submissive dog may not appreciate her sometimes take-charge attitude. We also recommend no cats or small dogs due to a very high prey drive we’ve observed.
After only a short time with her, we can see Mollie is a very fast, eager learner, catching on quickly to our routine, with only a few corrections needed in some areas.
What Mollie’s ideal family will need to look like is someone who works from home at least part-time, is retired or semi-retired, has a dedication to her exercise needs, and ongoing training. A physical fence is also a must. Children should be old enough to understand that she is a young dog with energy.
We don’t feel Mollie would be a good fit for an apartment.
