Haven is a 2-year-old recently spayed Golden Retriever with a cream-colored coat and weighs
53 pounds. She was one of the breeder surrender dogs that came in the first part of March, but she is not a typical extremely scared breeder dog. Haven does require a confident dog her size or larger in the home, so she can continue to gain confidence in learning new things.

She loves to play with any dog but will read the dog’s cues if it doesn’t want to play.
She is the sweetest dog who is very treat motivated, enjoys human attention, and gathers toys to chew on in a crate because she has never had chew toys before. When Haven needs to go out, she sits up and barks or starts to pace. Many former breeder dogs are afraid outside in the wide open with no place to hide. Haven loves to explore the yard but will get scared and run to the house if she hears a loud truck, motorcycle, or airplane. That is why we require a physical fence for these precious dogs!

We are still working on walking on a leash. She has some deep fears of the leash from
something that happened before she was surrendered. Haven cowers when she sees me with a leash, and she becomes a bucking bronco when I get it on her.

Haven was born with hip problems and torn ACLs in both knees. She had her first TPLO surgery on May 12, and in addition to repairing the ACL, the surgeon also repaired a torn meniscus in that knee. Her recovery will take 8 weeks. A few weeks later, she will have surgery on her second knee. Each procedure costs between $5,000 and $6,000.

If you would like to help with Haven’s veterinary bills, please donate whatever you can. Every amount helps.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed toward her first surgery.  The surgeon is hopeful that after her knees are both repaired, Haven might not need hip surgery!

This dog is such a brave girl!
