Ruby is a 1.5-year-old bundle of joy who recently experienced the death of her beloved owner. She came back to her original GRRoIowa foster home for a month and is now ready to give the world another chance.
Ruby is a very high-energy, playful girl. She is known as the whirlwind in our house, always ready for action, very open for cuddles, and tireless at retrieving. But she is not a girl to be ignored. She wants to experience life full force. If you ever wanted to train a dog to go hiking or do agility, fearless Ruby is your candidate!
She loves other dogs, particularly if they want to race her all day! She is fine with dog-savvy cats.
Ruby needs:
🐾A fenced yard. No invisible fences. Ruby was originally placed with GRRoIowa as she has a history of running. She is an adventurous, brave soul. You will need the fence to help burn off her energy.
👫Companionship. Ruby needs her people around more often than not. She has too much energy to be home alone all day. She needs a lot of ball throwing and then can sit quietly at your feet while you work.
💜Affection. Ruby has had a tense couple of months, and we need to make it up to her! She needs someone to truly commit to her. She loves being brushed.
🐾Patience. Ruby can get overexcited and needs to work on her training. She has some basic commands but selective hearing at times. She has experience living with children, but kids should be eight or older, as she is a whirlwind. Training classes would be a great way to encourage that human-dog bond!
⚕Medical care. Ruby came to GRRoIowa with a history of urinary leakage following her spay. She must remain on Proin medication once a day for life. This medication costs about $30 a month, and she thinks it is a treat. She has been dry at her foster’s home both times with us while taking this medication, but she did have accidents at her last home. She is currently let out frequently during the day (again to retrieve those balls!), but she also makes it through a nine-hour night sleeping loose on her foster parents’ bedroom floor, staying dry. If she is off schedule, she will need a diaper at night. (Think too much drinking water after a long walk late at night.)

This is a resilient, happy-happy dog, but she is young and makes mistakes at times. And she’s been displaced again. But she will make her family extraordinarily happy! She’s pretty amazing!
