Update 8/26/24:

Weavers been in his new foster home for a month now and here’s what we’ve learned about this amazing boy!

  1. He’s smart and a fast learner.
  2. He’s sweet and gentle except when meeting people he’ll jump up on you. We’re still working on manners.
  3. He LOVES humans, but takes subtle cues from his resident 4 fur sisters.
  4. He loves everyone he meets including kids, but may knock over little ones with his energy and exuberance. Kids 8+ are recommended.
  5. He gets along great with other dogs taking cues from them.
  6. He walks well with a leash and harness. He loves his walks.
  7. He loves breakfast, dinner and takes treats gently from your hand.
  8. He does all his business outside.
  9. He’s a Velcro dog, needing to be by his people including at night where he sleeps beside the bed on the floor.
  10. He sometimes has bad dreams about what life was like when he was living outside alone.
  11. Weaver is not a candidate for a boarding facility.
  12. He needs reassurance and consistency so he can learn that people are good, and will be there for him.
  13. Medium energy boy. He gets super excited to greet people, loves his walks, will chase a ball a few times, and plays hard with his 2-1/2 yr Great Pyrenees pal Winnie (our daughter’s dog) but is very respectful of our old crew here at the house. He needs to burn off some energy but when I’m busy with other things, he’s very good and chews on Nylabones, napping until we’re ready to go outside.

Weaver is a marvelous dog with lots of amazing qualities. Because of his past, he needs adopters who are home more than not, preferably work from home, semi retired or retired. He’s quite taken with foster Dad so a male in a forever home would be an added bonus. He loves children but because of his exuberance children 8+ is recommended. He needs a confident resident dog, preferably on the younger side who wants to play, and lots of love, patience and consistency. He’s going to make a wonderful addition for the right family.

Weaver is a five year-old English retriever.   He is a very good natured dog. He just wants to be loved and be by his people.  He knows his name, sit, down and we are working on, go away and no.  He will need extra training but he loves learning and wants to please.  He turns out to be housebroken and getting used to being inside the house. He sleeps peacefully through the night and he gets along well with my dog. I’ve not had him around kids, but living with kids would be dependent on the kids and their behaviors.   He enjoys walks, but pulls a bit. A fence will be best because he shows a strong interest in bunnies and squirrels. This strong prey drive leads us to believe he will do better in a cat free home.   He does have a little separation anxiety when I leave I can hear him or howl and also when I come home, I can hear him through the door, but  only at times. He is a beautiful dog and just wants to have a forever home that will love him forever and give him the love and attention he so deserves.
